Technical Problems:

When I click a channel, the player doesn't launch.

First, let's check to make sure your computer is capable of running Future Perfect Radio. Here are our Technical Requirements:

Windows PC

  • Windows XP, Vista, or 7
  • Internet Exporer 6 (or higher), Firefox 3 or higher, Safari 4 or higher, Google Chrome
  • Flash 8 or higher, 10 recommended
Mac
  • OS X 10.5 or higher
  • Safari 4 or higher, Firefox 3 or higher, Google Chrome
  • Flash 8 or higher, 10 recommended
Linux
  • Firefox 3 or higher recommended; Konqueror has some rendering issues
  • Flash 8 or higher, 10 recommended
Other general requirements:
  • Javascript must be enabled
  • Pop-up blockers must allow FPR to launch on your mouse click
  • Cookies must be enabled for deselects to work
If all of those criteria are true and the Future Perfect Radio player is still not launching, our best bet is that you have a "pop-up blocker" installed on your computer that is preventing the player window from opening. (Try holding down the "Ctrl" key while you click on a tile to see if you can defeat the blocker.) This could be a feature of your Norton or McAffee software (if you use them), a feature of a toolbar within your browser, or a feature from another source. Hopefully with this knowledge you can track it down and turn it off.

The player launches but no music plays.

Firewalls may block music from playing. Also, make sure you have the latest version of Flash installed and have JavaScript enabled. But first, try clicking the play button -- this usually overcomes this problem.

The player launches and starts playing music, but it stops after a few songs.

First, try hitting "Pause," then "Play." This will usually solve the problem. Or, try refreshing the player (Ctrl-R, or Command-R on Macs). Unfortunately, we've found this problem occurs when we have a lot of listeners. Our apologies!

Artist deselects doesn't work

Artist deselects sometimes don't go through. The best way to fix this is to refresh the player (Ctrl-R, or Command-R on Macs). If this still doesn't fix the problem, contact us. Be sure to tell us which artist you're trying to deselect and we'll get back to you!

Using Future Perfect Radio:

Why can't I choose to listen to a particular artist or song?

Currently, every Internet radio station in the U.S. must abide by guidelines set forth in a federal law called the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA), which places certain restrictions on what we can offer our listeners. (If you're interested, you can view the text of the DMCA in PDF format here. The section that regulates Internet Radio is listed under Title IV, Sec. 405, "Scope Of Exclusive Rights In Sound Recordings; Ephemeral Recordings" on page 33 of the file.)

The webcasting license we operate under only allows "limited personalization" of our channels. This is why we only allow listeners to deselect a limited number of artists they don't want to hear, rather than allowing listeners to pick specific artists or specific songs they do want to hear. (As far as copyright holders are concerned, allowing listeners to choose the specific songs they want to hear when they want to hear them might discourage those listeners from buying CDs.)

Hopefully we've found a solution that everyone will be reasonably happy with.

Why are there so many ads?

We feel your pain. But, alas, Future Perfect Radio is a business. Servers cost money, equipment costs money, heck, even food costs money. We want to provide these channels to you for free, but to do that we need to run ads. Sometimes it may seem like they're overwhelming. This usually happens when very few people are listening.

That means you will hear LESS ADS if we have MORE LISTENERS. Yes, spreading the word about Future Perfect Radio will make it a better experience for everyone. So help share the love. If the ads are really out of control, contact us directly.

How do you deselect artists?

There are two ways to deselect artists. The first is to go into the "Artist List" tab in the Future Perfect Radio player and click the minus sign next to an artist. The second is mouse-over the name of a currently-playing artist in the "Now Playing" tab. A box labeled "Remove Artist" should appear. Click this. And that's it!

Can I listen to Future Perfect Radio in separate applications like iTunes?
